Anglican Baptism - A Contentious Rant

There was a baptism at my church this morning.  Two much-loved families in our church had two of their much-loved infants baptised.  I myself have a one-year-old son.  Don't tell anyone at my church (as if they don't remind us regularly), but my son is un-baptised.  SHHHHH!!!  Don't tell!!!  [Insert gobs of sarcasm here]

Ok.  The serivce ended with the celebrant saying, "Please welcome the newest members of the Body of Christ!"

So, this doesn't sit right with me because I believe my son is ALREADY a member of the Body of Christ.  He was born into it.  He was created into it.  Later, God willing, he will have a choice to either acknowlegde his membership himself, or turn away from it.  I pray he chooses the former.

I've been struggling finding a really good argument for infant baptism so far.  I have been, much to my wifes frustration, putting the brakes on when it comes to our son's baptism.  Why?  Because I refuse to do it in order to appease anyone other than Jesus.  If I become convinced that infant baptism is something Jesus requires, or perhaps even strongly suggests, I'm in.  I'm ready to be taugh a lesson on it.  I'm ready to do some reading and see why the issue has caused such division between denominations.  I just refuse to take it on lightly just because it's "what Anglican's do".  You know?

I guess right now I just believe that God loves my son so much, that if he were die today, there is no way God would pass on the opportunity to have my son in his fold.  I can barely stand to be without him for days at a time and I only have earthly, fatherly love.  How much more then, must God love him?
